Silver State Peace Officers Museum’s Grand Opening in Nevada
The Silver State Peace Officers Museum will celebrate a public grand opening on Saturday, July 18th, 2009 with a law enforcement parade beginning at 10:30 which will move through the Virginia City business district and on to the museum. The parade will feature law enforcement agency representatives from throughout Nevada, bagpipers, honor guards, mounted officers, motorcycles, restored vintage police vehicles, and modern vehicles.
Opening ceremonies will follow the parade at the museum beginning at 11:00am. The museum is located within the historic 1876 Storey County Jail contained within the Storey County Courthouse at 26 South B Street in Virginia City.
The museum features what is believed to be the largest and finest Nevada and United States law enforcement collection known to exist. Artifacts date from the late 1700s with emphasis on the 1800s and early 1900s. In addition, the museum includes an interactive law enforcement themed children?s area. A very special Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Room dedicated to those men and women having died in service to their Nevada communities. This room will feature a searchable computer kiosk featuring names, photos, biographies, and the stories surrounding their dedicated service and the circumstances of their line of duty deaths.
The Silver State Peace Officers Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving law enforcement history and providing education to the public regarding the rich history and current challenges of the profession.
