Lots of Events and Activities in West Los Angeles in Spring 2010

WESTWEEK + ART & DESIGN WALK: a week-long celebration of great fashion, art, and design in West Hollywood. This year, for the first time, the ART & DESIGN WALK will take place over the course of two days; Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. Friday will be geared toward trade professionals in conjunction with the Pacific Design Center’s WESTWEEK, an annual design industry/trade event.

Saturday will be the traditional public event featuring food, entertainment, shopping discounts, receptions and other surprises throughout The Avenues District, which includes fashion boutiques, specialty shops, high-end interior design showrooms, art galleries, and restaurants covering Melrose Avenue, and Robertson and Beverly Boulevards. Admission to the event is free.

Westside Los Angeles Welcomes the Honda Los Angeles Marathon

It’s a new face and a new route for the Honda Los Angeles Marathon, which celebrates its 25th anniversary on March 21, 2010. The venerable race celebrates a new route, the “Stadium to the Sea Course” as well as a series of other firsts, including the first-ever route along the Sunset Strip, the first-ever appearance on Rodeo Drive, and the first time the finish line makes its way to the beach, in Santa Monica.

Santa Monica is rolling out the red carpet for runners and their supporters with deals and specials. Marathon onlookers are invited to celebrate at the Santa Monica Pier, where there will be food, water, heat sheets, massage therapists, medal distribution and photo opportunities. After the festivities are over, attendees are invited to stay in Los Angeles’ Westside to take advantage of the many deals being offered by Santa Monica restaurants and businesses.

Greystone Estate, the historic and architecturally significant Beverly Hills property built for oil heir, Ned Doheny, back in the late 1920s, will serve as the backdrop for the first Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance on April 11, 2010. This classic car lover mecca features a stunning outdoor exhibit of more than 100 classic and vintage vehicles, many from the Doheny era (1927-1955). Guests will not only have the opportunity to inspect and admire these world class cars, but they’ll also enjoy a display of auto memorabilia, a vintage fashion show, an open air marketplace featuring books, fine art and jewelry, food and beverages, live musical entertainment, a tour of the historic mansion and a “two for one” admission pass to LA’s Petersen Automotive Museum. What could be more breathtaking than watching the sunset along the water? Throw in a sailing competition and you’ve got The California Yacht Club Sunset Series Sailing Regatta. Enjoy sunset during Marina del Rey’s largest sailing event from waterfront restaurants, Fisherman’s Village, aboard a cruise or from the North South Jetty. Races start at five minute intervals from 5:55-6:30 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. The Sunset Series runs every Wednesday from April 14 through September 1, 2010.

The Sunset Strip: At 75, a Hollywood Icon Gets a Makeover

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the notorious Sunset Strip is receiving its first major makeover in its storied history. The beautification efforts will include landscaping, resurfacing and improvements to the pedestrian experience. Set at the base of the Hollywood Hills, the Sunset Strip is home to LA’s hottest nightlife scene, offering visitors the chance to experience historic live music clubs like The Roxy, Whisky a Go Go, House of Blues, and Viper Room. The Strip became part of West Hollywood when the city incorporated in 1984.

Two New Museums Opening in Santa Monica

Santa Monica is welcoming the addition of two new museums in Spring 2010: The Museum of Flying and the Santa Monica History Museum. The Museum of Flying will place heavy emphasis on Douglas Aircraft and the history of the Santa Monica Airport. Key features to the new museum will be an extensive exhibit on the famous Douglas World Cruisers; interactive exhibits; video kiosks; and a theatre. The Santa Monica History Museum will be the first museum to display historical information on the art, culture and history of Santa Monica that has been carefully collected and preserved for years by the Santa Monica Historical Society. Interactive state-of-the-art exhibits will include a virtual roller coaster and a “Then and Now” touch screen map of Santa Monica.
