Something to see in Santa Monica for flying & history buffs

The Museum of Flying, opening in Fall 2009, will be located on the South side of the Santa Monica Airport directly adjacent to the DC-3 aircraft Monument and park. The Museum will place heavy emphasis on Douglas Aircraft and the history of the Santa Monica Airport. Key features to the new museum will be an extensive exhibit on the famous Douglas World Cruisers with the “New Orleans” serving as the focal point. Interactive exhibits, video kiosks, and a theater are also planned. An aircraft tie-down area directly opposite the new Museum will serve as a display area for the museum’s flyable aircraft and will accommodate visiting aircraft from other Air Museums. Interactive state-of-the-art exhibits will include a virtual roller coaster modeled after the Santa Monica Pier’s original ‘Whirlwind Dipper’, and a “Then and Now” touch screen map of Santa Monica.
