PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (9/26/03)– A rare event will occur at Callaway on Saturday, October 18, 2003. Guests will have the opportunity to tour both the Callaway home built in the 1930s and, for the first time ever, new homes within Callaway that they can own themselves.

HISTORIC CALLAWAY HOMEPLACE
Open for limited tours in 2003, the residence of Callaway founders Cason and Virginia Callaway is among the most extraordinary historic houses in Georgia. It stands as an exceptional example of the “Adirondack” style of architecture popular for cottages during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, according to the historic preservation division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.  In June 2002, this log home set on the outer acres of Callaway property, was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This impressive, yet modest home, which includes an indoor swimming pool, is where the Callaways raised their children and entertained dignitaries and close friends, including Franklin D. Roosevelt during his presidency. The rooms are rich with Callaway family history and will be decorated with floral arrangements created from seasonal materials collected from the nearby landscape.

Tickets are $35 per person. Tours are scheduled 10:00 a.m. ET and 2:00 p.m. for October 18 and November 29. Each tour, rain or shine, is very limited and advance tickets are required. Reservations can be made now by calling 706-663-5154. Day Butterfly Center. “This exhibit is a wonderful way to entertain our guests, both young and old, while teaching them about the environment.”
