Le Cajun Music Awards and Festival in Louisiana

Le Cajun Music Awards and Festival is a unique, three-day event featuring an awards ceremony honoring the best in Cajun music and Cajun musicians for 2004, is set for Aug. 20-22 in Lafayette, the heart of Louisiana?s Cajun Country. The Festival, which will take place at Blackham Coliseum, kicks off with the awards ceremony, sponsored by the Cajun French Music Association (CFMA) Friday, Aug. 20. The best in Cajun music will be recognized in categories including awards for Band of the Year, Best Accordionist, Best Fiddler, Best Male and Female Vocalist, Song of the Year and Best Recording of the Year. Walter Mouton and the Scott Playboys will provide live music for the awards night dance. Cajun bands from outside Louisiana including Europe are also recipients of awards.

The awards night admission is free.

Saturday, Aug. 21t and Sunday, Aug. 22 features two full days of live Cajun music from morning to night. Thousands of music lovers from across the United States come to Lafayette for this event featuring the best in Cajun cuisine and arts and crafts from throughout Louisiana. The festival will also include a Special All-Star band composed of older musicians, Robert Jardell, Ray Abshire and Cory McCauley, plus talented up-and-comers, Andre and Louis Michot, Horace Trahan, Courtney Granger and Kevin Wimmer. There will also be a variety of children’s activities including face painting, balloon artists and more. Admission for Saturday and Sunday is $10 a day.

9:15-9:45 a.m. – Harry LaFleur & String Band (Founder of CFMA)
10-11:30 a.m. – Matthew Courville & Cypress Knees
11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. – Donny Broussard & the Louisiana Stars
1:30-3 p.m. – Special All Star Cajun Band
3:15-4:45 p.m. – Kevin Naquin & the Ossun Playboys
5-6:30 p.m. – Jackie Caillier & the Cajun Cousins
6:45- 8:15 p.m. – Jason Frey/Travis Matte & Lagniappe

9-9:45 a.m. – Queens Pageant & Introduction of Visiting Queens
10-11:30 a.m. – T-SalГ©
11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. – Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold
1:30-3 p.m. – Don Fontenot et Les Amis De La Louisiane
3-5 p.m. – Ed Gary & the Louisiana Aces

The CFMA, which sponsors the festival, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of Cajun music, language and culture, was founded in 1984 by Mr. Harry LaFleur of Eunice, La. and has grown to over 2,000 member families.
