Magazine Readers Choose Their Las Vegas Favorites
What’s On, The Las Vegas Guide is proud to announce the results of its sixth annual Visitors’ Choice Awards poll. Readers of the city’s most popular visitors’ guide filled out and mailed in ballots that had been inserted in copies earlier this year. Over 1,000 people participated in the survey. They selected their Las Vegas favorites in 60 different categories covering everything from dining and entertainment to nightlife, shopping and gaming. As bait, What’s On offered up a dream vacation to Las Vegas–complete with $2,000 in cash–to one lucky voter who took the time to speak out about Sin City.
Among the highlights, this year saw the crowning of a new Favorite Headliner. Celine Dion unseated Wayne Newton, who had received the honor for the previous five years, with a mere three votes! The Improv at Harrah’s was chosen as the visitors’ Favorite Comedy Room, and Harrah’s also dominated several gaming categories picking up wins as the Favorite Casino for Slots, Favorite Casino for Keno and Favorite Casino Overall.
Speaking of resorts, Bellagio again proved its power by capturing wins for Favorite Hotel Lobby, Favorite Hotel Staff and Favorite Hotel Overall–and Cirque du Soleil’s “O,” which is featured at the resort, won it’s fourth straight award as Favorite Production Show.
Open just over a year, Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas, an authentic replica of the famous beer hall in Munich, Germany, won readers’ hearts in the Favorite Other Ethnic Restaurant category. With its fraternity party-like atmosphere, Coyote Ugly at New York-New York picked up its first win in the Favorite Bar category. The MGM Grand’s popular Studio 54 received Favorite Dance Club for its sixth straight year.
Oddly enough, odd-sizes took over the shoe and apparel categories. Rochester Big & Tall was selected as being the Favorite Men’s Apparel Store and Leonard’s Wide Shoes was the Favorite Shoe Store. Who says comfort and fashion don’t mix!
And finally, for the sixth straight year, Hoover Dam was chosen as the visitors’ Favorite Off-Strip Destination.
