New Hampshire's White Mountains a ‘Must-See' According to New Book

Count New Hampshire's White Mountains as one of the must-see places to travel on your trip through life, according to a new book entitled "1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before You Die."

New York Times best-selling author Patricia Shultz, who sparked the travel bug in millions of people with her first book "1,000 Places to See Before You Die," went back on the road recently to research her latest book, "1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before You Die."

Schultz devoted more than a full page to the White Mountains in her new book, highlighting Mount Washington, its namesake hotel in Bretton Woods and the 8-mile Mount Washington Auto Road to the summit of northeastern America's highest peak. She also gave kudos to the wonderfully scenic Kancamagus Highway, connecting North Woodstock and Conway through the White Mountain National Forest and the Conway Scenic Railroad.

The White Mountains region of New Hampshire has always been a favorite of Canadian travellers. Aside from its stunning scenery, the area also offers many tourist attractions. Story Land, an amusement park located in the heart of the White Mountains in Conway, is a great place for children to let loose and have some fun during a family vacation. The park features a variety of rides and games that will keep the kids happy for hours.

The Flume Gorge is another popular tourist attraction in the area. It is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The imposing walls of granite rise to a height of 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart.
A trip into the gorge begins and ends at the Visitor Center where a 20-minute movie showcasing beautiful Franconia Notch State Park can be viewed. The Flume Gorge is open to the public until October 21, 2007, weather permitting.

"We are tickled that Patricia has included the White Mountains in her second book," said Jayne O'Connor, president of White Mountains Attractions in North Woodstock. "On the road of life, knowing there are beautiful and peaceful places like this not so far away gives all of us good reason to make a detour and recharge our batteries."
Schultz's first book has spent more than two years on the New York Times' best seller list and has inspired a television show now airing on The Travel Channel and an online community at www.1000beforeyoudie.com
