New “Flavors of Philly Tour” Launched A Philly-themed food adventure
PHILADELPHIA (May 5, 2009) – Eat your way through Philadelphia on City Food Tours’ newest adventure, the “Flavors of Philly Tour.” This 2 ВЅ-hour tour includes samples of Philly’s iconic foods including cheesesteaks, cheese fries, Italian hoagies, “tomato pie,” soft pretzels and sweet treats. Fun and knowledgeable tour directors, all long-time city residents, share the quirky stories and fun facts behind all of the delicious Philadelphia foods being tasted. The Flavors of Philly Tour, which includes a visit to Reading Terminal Market, runs Wednesday through Saturday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and includes enough food to make a meal.
“Both tourists and locals are ‘eating up’ this tour. Tourists love learning about Philadelphia’s food traditions and visiting restaurants and food destinations that locals frequent. And locals, even people who have lived in the city all their lives, have a lot of fun and are surprised by how much they learn about Philly,” said Robert Weinberg, co-owner, City Food Tours, which has been the premier food-focused tour and event operator since they burst onto the Philadelphia food scene in November of 2007.
In addition to the historic Reading Terminal Market, guests visit two authentic mom-and-pop pizzerias and a soft pretzel bakery. During the short strolls between locations, tour directors share information about the city’s restaurant scene and history and point out some of the landmark buildings that make up Philly’s unique cityscape.
With limited walking, plentiful kid-friendly food samples, reduced pricing for children and a fun certificate for each child on the tour, this tour is extremely family friendly. City Food Tours has experience accommodating vegetarians and most allergies.
Advanced reservations are required and can be made online at www.cityfoodtours.com or by calling 800-979-3370. Tickets are $39 for adults and $29 for children 12 and under.
