Longwood Gardens Welcomes Renowned "Curtis On Tour" for Special Concert Saturday, March in Philadelphia

Musicians from the Curtis Institute
Kennett Square, PA – Two world-class institutions combine to present an evening of amazing music and beauty as Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA, the world's premier horticultural display garden, welcomes talented musicians from the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music on Saturday, March 8 at 5 p.m.

The concert is part of Curtis On Tour, an initiative that brings the extraordinary artistry of Philadelphia's celebrated Curtis Institute of Music to audiences nationwide. Launching in spring 2008, Curtis On Tour features ensembles of tomorrow's leading musicians performing chamber music alongside the conservatory's celebrated faculty and alumni–an irresistible blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned artistry.

"We are honored to welcome Curtis On Tour to Longwood," said Paul Redman, director of Longwood Gardens. "These spectacular musicians performing amid the elegance and splendor of Longwood will make for a truly memorable evening," said Redman.

"We at Curtis are delighted to count Longwood Gardens among the first Curtis On Tour venues," said Roberto Díaz, Curtis's president. "It will be a rare treat to perform in the beautiful setting of these renowned gardens."

Curtis On Tour presents a student quartet playing with violist Roberto Díaz, Curtis's president and a member of its performance faculty; and cellist Margo Tatgenhorst Drakos, a 1999 Curtis graduate, chamber musician, and soloist. The young musicians are Bella Hristova, violin; Joel Link, violin; Vicki Powell, viola; and Yu-Wen Wang, cello. The program includes the Sextet from Capriccio by Richard Strauss, Verklärte Nacht by Arnold Schoenberg, and the String Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 97, by Antonín Dvorák.

The performance takes place in the grandeur of Longwood's historic 300-seat Ballroom. Before the concert, guests can stroll Longwood's four-acre indoor conservatory adorned with exotic and colorful orchids as part of the Gardens' awarding-winning Orchid Extravaganza display. After the concert, enjoy a celebratory reception with fellow concert-goers and the artists.
