McAllen, Texas Ranked One of the USA’s Safest Cities

McAllen, Texas has been ranked on of the United States’ safest cities, according to Farmer’s Insurance Group. Ranked 12th safest area in the country, the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission region has taken some heat recently from sensationalized media stories alluding to safety concerns.

“This ranking by such a credible source is excellent news for us,” said McAllen Convention and Visitors’ Bureau Director Nancy Millar.

She added that apparently many journalists have been unable to distinguish between the Rio Grande Valley area of the U.S./Mexico border and other geographic locations that have experienced trouble. “We have been unfairly targeted lately by some journalists on safety issues,” she said. “This good ranking helps set the record straight since it accurately portrays the McAllen area as the safe region that it is.”

The Farmer’s Insurance ranking took into account crime, weather, lack of natural disasters, foreclosures, home prices, air quality, terrorist threats, environmental hazards, life expectancy and job loss numbers. 379 U.S. cities were studied for the ranking.

Other Texas cities in the top 15 included Austin, ranked #1, and El Paso, ranked #8.
