Virginia City Celebrates Irish Heritage with Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

(March, 2010) – Historic Virginia City, Nevada will celebrate its Irish heritage with the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade down C Street at noon Saturday, March 13, 2010. Registration and lineup will begin at 11 a.m. at the Fourth Ward School, 537 South C St., Virginia City.

Joan Gallagher Petrini, a member of the Gallagher clan whose Comstock roots go back six generations, will be the grand marshal of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 13.

She is the wife of Angelo Petrini, and ran her own business, the Nevada Gambling Museum, for more than 20 years.

Petrini graduated from UNR and worked for the State Treasurer’s Office. She was very active in the Storey?County?School System, was head of the PTA and is a Hall of Fame member of the Virginia City Alumni Association.

She was instrumental in starting the St.?Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance which was a huge fundraiser for the Virginia City?Schools.

Veterans, equestrians, the Giant Leprechauns of Fresno and many more entries are expected to participate.
