Vallotton" – combined with overnight accommodation, with prices starting at
EUR 67.- / CHF 106.
As one of the world's leading cities that enjoy a flourishing art trade, Zürich is home to over
100 art galleries and more than 50 museums. The choice ranges from the Kunsthaus Zürich
(Museum of Fine Arts), which ranks among the top art museum addresses in Europe,
through to the recently extended Rietberg Museum, one of the most important centers of
non-European art. Thanks to Zürich Tourism's package offer, "Art Experience in Zürich",
guests can enjoy a combination of first-class art exhibitions, depending on the scheduled
dates, coupled with overnight accommodation. This special offer is available up to December
31, 2007 and costs from EUR 67.- / CHF 106.-.
Treasures of the Liao. China's Forgotten Dynasty
On show at Zürich’s Rietberg Museum from May 13 until July 15, 2007 are 200 of the most
spectacular archaeological discoveries from the Liao Dynasty, dating from the 11th century.
These artifacts bear witness to the sophisticated culture of this nomadic people. The
centerpiece of the exhibition is the complete funerary outfit of the Princess of Chen, including
her highly impressive golden death mask.
Peter Fischli and David Weiss
From June 6 until September 9, 2007, the Kunsthaus Zürich is presenting Switzerland's first
retrospective of works by the contemporary Swiss artists, Peter Fischli and David Weiss. The
exhibition, mounted by curator Bice Curiger in collaboration with the Tate Modern, London, is
called "Questions & Flowers". Organized with the artists' support, it boasts the most
comprehensive overview to date of an oeuvre that is as varied as it is enigmatic. Comprising
sculptures, photographs, films and videos, the works resist glib classification.
Angkor. Cambodia's Divine Heritage
For the first time in a German-speaking country, from August 19 to December 2, 2007
Zürich's Rietberg Museum is showing a major exhibition dedicated to the art of the Khmer. Of
central importance are the large stone sculptures – some of them life-size – from the Hindu
and Buddhist temples of ancient Cambodia. In addition, visitors can admire important
bronzes, as well as exquisite wooden figures and ceramics.
FeÌlix Vallotton
From October 5, 2007 until January 13, 2008, the Kunsthaus Zürich is exhibiting a selection
of around 70 paintings by FeÌlix Vallotton (1865-1925). The Swiss exponent of the avant-
garde, who studied in the circle of the Nabis, stood out as a result of his socially critical and
ironic works. He neither shunned caricature-like innuendoes nor did he preserve the
semblance of bourgeois idyll. His cool and disassociated works, which are characterized by a
heightened sense of artificiality, still fascinate the public to this day.
