The pleasure of Walking in Ticino, Switzerland
For adults and kids, the return of Spring is an invitation to spend time outside. A nice walk in the open, with the green starting to show, maybe some primroses decorating the path, what could be better than this?

Information :
Durata della visita: 3hours
The walk starts at the Mendrisio railway station, on the Catenazzi street. It continues along the MorГЁe street and then on the San Martino Street. After having passed the Church, typical of the Carolingian age, you should continue your walk up to the swimmingpool and then deviate to Penate.
The walk up to Meride, reached after more or less 1 hour, is easy and peacefull. It crosses the typical vegetation of the San Giorgio Mount where is easy to recognize the chesnut tree, the birch, or even the beech tree: all distinctive trees of this region. The Meride village, one of the most characteristic of the whole Ticino Canton, is famous for its “stuccos” and fresco paintings. You really should not forget to visit the Odelli House and the fossil Museum.
After the cemetery you may start to ascend the Mount in direction of Cassina. A quite important part of the walk pavement is made of cobblestone and have been made by the soldiers during the World War I. If you look carefully, at one point, a little bit before that the walk is flat again, you will obserse a stone with a date 1917 engraved. Cassina (902 m), a green square “stolen” to the wood, is the ideal place for a pic-nic and the outdoor grill is free and ready to be used by the hungry hikers.
After Cassina you should leave the path of the San Giorgio Mount to continue in direction of the peak. The rise along the green field is pleasant, its the last effort before reaching the top. From the top of the San Giorgio Mount you will enjoy the fantastic view on Morcote, on the Lugano Gulf and of course on the Alps. If you look carefully you might recognize the different alps peaks!
The way back is possible choosing the Serpiano option, where you will also have the opportunity to eat something. From there you might take the bus (AutoPostale) to go back to Mendrisio, or the cableway that will take you to Brusino-Arsizio.
