Extreme ski tour challenge in Valais, Switzerland

A challenge in the Valaisan mountains! An exacting 53km performance, altitude differences of 4000 metres going up and down! The Patrouille des Glaciers from Zermatt to Verbier is surely the most exacting ski mountaineering race in the world. Even the shorter challenge from Arolla to Verbier demands great endurance and technique. The participating patrols have put in many hours of training, proof of which will be put to the test from 21st to 25th April 2010.

The Patrouille des Glaciers 2010 has been launched. On Friday September 4th, in the barracks at Sion, the orders were given for the preparation of the Patrouille des Glaciers 2010 in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Territorial Forces, Brigadier Sergio Stoller. This marks the beginning of this glorious adventure which has been in preparation for months by the General Staff of the PDG.
Another very important moment is the launch of the inscription process. The maximal number of patrollers has been set to 4200, which represents 1400 patrols. The inscription process will be available from Saturday September 5th 7AM on the website www.pdg.ch.

Further information on the final inscriptions and the details of the next PDG will be revealed at the official press conference in Martigny, during the Foire du Valais on Friday October 9th 2009.

One addition to the 2010 edition is the increase in security equipment. Every patroller will have to be equipped with a helmet, a spade, a DVA (Digital Avalanche Transceiver) and a probe as detailed in the race rules.
