The Spanish Government Seeks Retired Teachers for English Language Education Project

Vaughan Systems, in collaboration with the Spanish Government, offers English native speakers the chance to teach English for 2 months in 12 different schools. After the success of its pilot program, the government of Castile-Leon with the aid of Vaughan Systems will be recruiting native speakers to enhance the English-learning process of pre-schoolers and early elementary school students.

Volunteers help as teaching assistants and see to it that the English language is alive and well in the classrooms of north central Spain offering them the opportunity to practice their language ability, particularly their speaking skills.

The program runs from April 12 – June 12 and seeks retired school teachers with previous experience. The student age groups range between 3 and 12 and classroom size between 25 and 35. The volunteer will do his or her best to be a fun, valuable asset for the school and for the young students in their efforts to start at an early age to gain a minimum ability with the English language. The curriculum in Spanish pre-schools and elementary schools is almost identical to what is found in primary education around the world.

In exchange, the project covers housing in a single or shared apartment in the town where the school is located, insurance for the duration of the program and transfers from Madrid.

Positions are available in various locations throughout the Castile-Leon area in ?vila, Segovia, Zamora, Burgos, Leon, Palencia, Soria, Valladolid and Salamanca. This area of Spain is one of the most emblematic in the history of the country. It is the home of El Cid and it was the area that most promoted the reconquest of the Spain from the Moors.

The pilot program kicks off on April 12, 2010 and spaces are limited. To apply, volunteers are requested to send their resume and cover letter to project coordinator Mayte Ziga at mziga@vaughantown.com or visit www.vaughantown.com under other programs for more information.
