The Ljubljana Marathon in Slovenia Attracts Foreign Runners Too
In October the capital city of Slovenia will once again be a marathon city. At this running event, which sees a growing number of hardy local and foreign runners every year (more than 13,000 last year!), you can take part in a classic marathon or a half marathon or choose a 10.5-km fun run. Entries are open until 20 October.
The Ljubljana Marathon, whose route passes through the Old Town and the green outskirts of the city, is a challenging experience both for competitors and for the numerous spectators lining the route. This major international running event, this year in its 14th edition, will take place on Sunday 25 October.
The day before the marathon, when many runners will be gathering their strength at ‘pasta banquets’, water sports enthusiasts will be putting themselves to the test in the 3rd international kayaking marathon. Kayakers and canoeists will test their strength on various courses on the river Ljubljanica, among the bridges of the city centre. The longest course measures almost 20 kilometres, while recreational canoeists can choose between a 5-km course and a 9-km course. Participants in previous marathons on the Ljubljanica have included medal-winners from the canoeing world championships!
