Homecoming Scotland 2009: Drumscot unveils three special tours

ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND (March 2009) – In conjunction with “Homecoming Scotland 2009″ and “The Gathering,” Drumscot Tours has devised a series of exclusive and innovative itineraries designed to reveal the raw, authentic beauty of Scotland, as well as its dramatic history and culture. These tours will enable Drumscot guests (not exceeding 12 in number), among other things, to experience an evening of live, classical, orchestral music while enjoying a delicious picnic in the grounds of the magnificent Glamis Castle, and also explore Scotland's Highland wilderness at up to 3,000 feet with a kilted ranger. These tours are upscale in nature, as reflected in the caliber and character of the deluxe accommodations – guests can look forward to staying in a unique selection of spectacular castles, romantic country houses and boutique hotels.

The three principle set tours are featured below:

“Whisky, Castles and the Gathering" – July 20-27 (7 nights)
A truly chock-full, Scottish tour encompassing the romantic Isle of Skye with Talisker Whisky Distillery & Dunvegan Castle, a boat trip on Loch Ness, a visit to historic Culloden Battlefield & the House of Bruar (a shop-aholic paradise). It culminates in a return to Edinburgh and tickets to the Clan Gathering Highland Games. It will be the biggest event of its kind ever. Cost – £1805 pounds (approximately $2707 USD).

"Music & the Wilds" – August 7-12 (5 nights)
A grand opportunity to meet the “Kilted Natives,” while experiencing the beauty and nature of Highland Perthshire with expert guides on hand. Also enjoy an evening of classic orchestral & Scottish live music while picnicking in the grounds of Glamis Castle. The tour ends in style with the spectacular Pipes & Drums of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Cost £1605 pounds (approximately $2407 USD).

"Boats, Trains & Automobiles" – August 14-21 (7 nights)
A tour that ferries the group across to the breathtaking Isle of Mull, the colorful village of Tobermoray and includes a couple of nights spent in the splendid Glengorm Castle. The trip incorporates the enchanting and spiritual Isle of Iona and tiny Isle of Staffa. As above, the tremendous spectacle of the Tattoo awaits the tour group upon its return to Edinburgh and the grandeur of the Royal Scotsman train is an optional extra. Cost – 5 day tour £1345 pounds (approx $2017 USD) or 7-day tour with the Royal Scotsman – £2995 (approx $4492 USD).

Says Drumscot Managing Director Gordon Adam: "Drumscot has taken a long time fine-tuning the schedules to ensure that vacationers experience a real blend of all that is synonymous with Scotland, namely our music, whisky, wildlife, castles and breathtaking scenery. I am not aware of any other Scottish Tours remotely like what we have created."

About "Homecoming Scotland 2009″

Homecoming Scotland 2009 is being heralded as one of this year’s biggest stories in international travel. "The Homecoming" coincides with the 250th anniversary of the death of Scotland's most famous poet, Robert Burns, and represents a government initiative aimed at encouraging those with a passion or connection with Scotland to come home. One of The Homecoming's signature events will be "The Gathering," a two-day celebration of the culture and history of Scotland, which will take place July 25-26 around Edinburgh and is expected to be among the greatest international clan gatherings the world has ever seen.
