Qatar Tourism Authority Participates in First Oictourism, International Tourism Fair for Islamic Countries 2005

Qatar, along with 56 other Islamic Nations, is participating in the first OICTOURISM International Tourism Fair for Islamic Countries, held on 24th – 26th November, in Istanbul, Turkey.

Organisers said that the gathering of 56 nations, which are all members of OIC Organisation of Islamic Conferences, has been an excellent opportunity for Islamic countries to bring their powers together to increase tourism increments and to expand new markets.

There is representation from tourism agents, tour operators, hotels, car rental companies and marketing companies from participating countries.

The COMCEC (committee for economic and commercial cooperation of the organising of the Islamic Conference) is also being held during the exhibition.

There has been particular interest from visitors during the exhibition on Qatar’s plans for developing cultural tourism in the future. “The prominence of Qatar as a quality destination, for culture, is becoming ever more apparent”, said David Garner, Senior Manager Market Development for Qatar Tourism Authority. “Several new developments related to Qatar’s rich heritage, such as the Cultural Village and the Islamic Arts Museum, designed by the world renowned architect I.M. Pei, will enhance Qatar’s profile as a significant cultural hub in the Middle East.”
