Khareef fest from July 15 in Oman

Oman is to stage a 48-day long cultural heritage celebrations.
MUSCAT, Oman (eTN) – The Khareef Festival, which celebrates the cultural heritage of Oman, will commence on July 15 at 8pm, officials announced.

Sayyid Abdullah bin Hamad bi Saif Al Busaidi, chairman of the State Audit Institution (SAI), will preside over the inauguration ceremony of Salalah Khareef Festival 2007.

Sheikh Salim bin Oufait al-Shanfari, head of Dhofar Municipality and chairman of the main committee of Salalah Khareef Festival 2007, told reporters that the opening ceremony this year will cover several artistic and heritage tableaus which give expression of the Sultanate's tourist and historical aspects, its magnificent nature and unique environment.

He added that the opening ceremony, which will comprise 11 singing shows, is distinguished by various and comprehensive programs for topics of local and regional interest.

The Salalah Khareef Festival 2007, a 48-day celebration, is estimated to draw thousands tourists and families from Oman and the Gulf.

The festival ends on August 31.
