Extreme Skydiving Adventure with Everest Skydive 2009
Explore Himalaya Travel & Adventure, a Kathmandu based adventure company is organizing the second skydiving programme over Mount Everest (29,035ft). After the resounding success of the first event Explore Himalaya & its team of experts are working together to bring the adventure that beats all adventures, the highest skydiving event in the world.
Brought to fruition after years of meticulous planning and preparation, the event was a huge hit last year and a number of world records were made. A total of 50 solos and 19 tandem descents were made from the height of 29,500ft, 22,500ft, 22,000ft, 19,000ft, 18,500ft and 18, 000 ft at the world’s highest drop zone Shyangboche. Nepal and Shyangboche were on focus, as the international media highlighted this historic event.
Everest Skydive pushes the boundaries harder and higher, for this is a challenge, taking skydiving into two harsh and extreme environments – high altitude at 29,500ft plus extreme cold.
Wendy Smith, an organizer of the event says – “I think from 2008 we have opened a lot of people’s eyes in the world about what we achieved and now they know we have actually achieved it safely. Now I think more and more people will want to try it. Not only will they be able to achieve an amazing skydive but they will also learn so much about this amazing area. It’s a very humbling environment.”
Everest Skydive 2009 programme dates are from 28th September to 17th October. The jumps (tandem and solo) will take place from 10th October till 13th October at Shyangboche. The jump dates in Nepal avoid the 200mph jet stream that roars across Everest’s summit. Prior to the actual jumps, there will be practice jumps at the drop zone at Shyangboche. The actual jumps will take place from Pilatus Porter aircraft.
