Tourist Inflow to Yucatan in Mexico Accrued during Holy Week Observance

Mexico´s Yucatan wrapped up one of the best Holy Week seasons ever with major numbers on the board in terms of tourist arrivals, hotel occupancy and visits to archeological sites. Officials from the state´s Tourism Department believe the increase in the amount of visitors to Yucatan is owed in part to an aggressive promotional campaign wielded by the local authorities.

In the case of hotels, occupancy rates were in the neighborhood of 58 to 72 percent during the weeklong religious observance.

In the region Uxmal, lodgings there averaged 91.5 percent occupancies, followed by Chichen Itza with 89.6 percent, and Valladolid that finished at 81.2 percent.

Archeological sites logged nearly 105,000 visitors, up a walloping 77.1 from the previous holiday when barely 59,000 people went to see these magnificent places.
