Mexico’s Hotels for Nudists Make it Big
Thousands of tourists eager to explore new sensations have swarmed into Mexico this winter and made a beeline for nudist hotels in which such great attractions, as a Santa wearing only his traditional red cap, promise to rake in even larger amounts of hard currency.
Official estimates have it that nudist hotels could come up with at least $10.5 million this year, thanks chiefly to U.S. travelers who like basking in the altogether in the Mexican Caribbean sun, spokespersons linked to the sector explained.
The same sources indicated that hotels in the Mayan Riviera expect to keep on swinging for the fences way into this upcoming spring with the arrival of 21,000 guests.
Francisco Aviles, assistant manager of Hotel Hidden Beach Resort, said his lodging a member of the Dorado Resort chain- will remain soldout until next May.
The five-star establishment lying some 60 miles south of Cancun Mexicos major travel destination- has put together a number of celebrations for the ongoing wintertime season.
Guests are all adults hailing mainly from the U.S. and Canada, Mr. Aviles pointed out. The hotel is equally getting all spruced up for the New Years Eve big bash and a midnight skin-dip to hail the coming of 2004.
Mr. Aviles noted there are plans in the making for stepping up promotional efforts in Europe because natural tourism is a highly acceptable choice in the Old World, too.
At the same time, the Mexican businessman explained that there will be another charter flight next year taking off from the city of Miami for those tourists willing to travel in the raw to make a contribution to this market niche thats increasingly catching on everywhere under the sun.
As a matter of fact, that ever-growing demand has prompted other hotel companies to try their hands at this segment of the market that churns out money by the millions.
Back in May, a peculiar flight dubbed Naked Air went down in the record books as the first nudist airlift ever. The initiative generated specific products for this kind of consumers and shot up interest in the development of this market in Mexico.
The much-anticipated Cancun-bound flight gave passengers the opportunity of taking their clothes off as soon as the aircraft peaked cruising speed.
The unusual journey experience was organized by Castaways Travel, a U.S. company based in Houston (Texas). Part of the naked entourage consisted of well-heeled professionals such as physicians, engineers, athletes and bankers.
