ISRAEL CELEBRATES MILLENNIA-OLD TRADITION WITH OLIVE BRANCH FESTIVAL
Toronto- December, 2008: Throughout the ages, the annual olive harvest has been a highly anticipated and festive event, and a phenomenon throughout the Mediterranean region. In keeping with tradition, Israel celebrated the annual olive harvest with the 14th Olive Branch Festival last month. One of the biblical “seven species,” the olive branch is a symbol of peace that is woven into the emblem of the State of Israel and is deep-rooted in the country’s culinary traditions.
The Olive Branch Festival was open to visitors of all ages and featured a wide range of “hands-on” workshops and activities at Hananya Farm in the Western Galilee, including olive picking and pressing, guided olive oil tastings, an information session on the olive harvest, an arts and crafts fair and live musical performances.
