The 18th Maccabiah Games will be the biggest ever, attracting 10,000 athletes and fans from Israel and around the world to Tel Aviv. The festive opening ceremony will pay tribute to Tel Aviv-Yafo, the first Hebrew city, which hosted the original games at its port and old municipal stadium in 1932.

Canadian athletes participating in the games include Olympic wrestlers Ari Taub and Jason Zilberman.

“The Maccabiah Games is a long-celebrated event that draws some of the world’s best athletes to compete in Israel,” says Oded Grofman, Consul for Tourism and Director, Israel Government Tourist Office – Canada. “This year’s competition will add some extra excitement to Tel Aviv’s summer-long centennial festivities.”

The Maccabiah games will culminate with a massive beach party, with Tel Aviv-Yafo’s beach strip decorated according to the different nationalities of guest athletes.
