CARLOS SANTANA TO PERFORM IN TEL AVIV, JUNE 2010
Grammy Award-winning rock musician Carlos Santana will perform in Tel Aviv on June 3rd as part of his 2010 world tour. Santana will play songs from his 30-year music catalog alongside 10 backup musicians at Jaffa’s Blumfield Stadium.

ISRAELI OPERA CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NABUCCO AND JESSYE NORMAN CONCERT AT MASADA
In honor of its 25th anniversary, the Israeli Opera will present two sunrise performances of Verdi’s Nabucco and a special concert with world-renowned diva Jessye Norman at the footsteps of Masada, June 3-5. The sunrise performances of Verdi’s Nabucco will be directed by Israeli conductor Daniel Oren and feature Georgian opera singer Paata Burchuladze on an elaborately built stage at the foot of Masada. The weekend will showcase a gala concert featuring American soprano Jessye Norman accompanied by the Israeli Opera Orchestra (June 4) and a selection of tours and sunrise concerts atop Masada.

PREHISTORIC BUILDING AND TOOLS DISCOVERED IN TEL AVIV
The remains of a prehistoric building were discovered this month on the banks of the Hayarkon River in Tel Aviv. The building, believed to be approximately 8,000 years old, consists of three rooms covered with Neolithic-era pottery shards and tools believed to be as much as 100,000 years old. The discovery provides evidence that permanent habitation existed in the Tel Aviv region more than 8,000 years ago.

ISRAEL SETS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD WITH LARGEST PLATE OF HUMMUS
A new Guinness World Record has been set for the world’s largest place of hummus this month in the village of Abu Ghosh near Jerusalem. The winning serving of the region’s popular dish contained more than 9,000 pounds of hummus served in a six-and-a-half-yard plate.
AZRIELI ART COLLECTION ON DISPLAY AT TEL AVIV MUSEUM OF ART
The David J. Azrieli art collection is being showcased in a public exhibition for the first time ever this month at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The collection features more than 350 works, including pieces by Arthur Markowicz, Anna Pasternak, Jankel Adler and Mordecai Ardon.

ISRAEL LAUNCHES NEW GRADING SYSTEM FOR BED AND BREAKFASTS
A new system ranking Israel’s approximately 9,000 bed and breakfasts, known as zimmerim, has launched this month due to a significant increase in rural tourism in Israel. The grading system will provide travelers with detailed information on thousands of zimmerim throughout Israel, including size of rooms, distance of hotel from central attractions, cleanliness, credible advertising and price.

ROZOV’S “LANDSCAPES AND MILESTONES” EXHIBIT OPENS AT TEL AVIV MUSEUM OF ART
A new exhibit featuring works by Israeli artist Joram Rozov entitled “Landscapes and Milestones” opened this month at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The display consists of a combination of photographs and realism-based oil paintings extracted from the vast panorama of Rozov’s life, including themes of childhood, military service, education and world travels.
