World Tourism Day to Be Celebrated in Northern India with fun for all age groups

Chandigarh, September 24:- The Chandigarh Administration is all set to celebrate World Tourism Day on September 27th, 2008. Launching of City Card, introducing the Tourism police squad, organizing of musical night, senior citizens’ picnic, rides on Hop on Hop off Bus, Tourism run and much more have been planned by the Administration to make the day complete fun for all age groups.
The Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh, General (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues will launch the City Card at Hotel Mountview. The City card costing Rs. 100 would entitle tourists and visitors for discounts at CITCO Restaurants, free entry to Rock Garden, Government Museum and Art Gallery and free rides on Hop on Hop off bus. The card would be made available from September 27 at Railway Station, Tourist Information Centers and other tourist places and will be valid for 3 days.
A squad of 100 Police personnel under Tourism police would be introduced at Sukhna Lake who will provide assistance to the tourists round the year, round the clock. They would be deputed at major tourist spots like Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and City Plaza. Passengers at Airport and Railway Station would be given a special innovative welcome.
The celebrations would start with Morning Raga by the eminent Classical Singer Subhash Ghosh at Sukhna Lake. A run for Tourism has also been organized with the support CITCO from Sukhna Lake to Rock Garden which would terminate at Sukhna Lake. CITCO has also organized a picnic at Kansal Forest for senior citizens of the Old Age Home which will be flagged off from Lajpat Rai Bhawan.
International Food Festival has also been organized by CITCO at Hotel Mountview to mark the celebrations of World Tourism Day. The Festival will offer Mexican, Lebenian, Italian and Continental Cuisine. The cuisine would be made available at a packaged rate of Rs. 399 from 12 noon to 11.00pm on this Saturday and Sunday.
Free Rides on Hop on Hop off bus through out the day with a special welcome for underprivileged and slum children have also been arranged. Tourists and visitors will be offered discount of 15% at Hotel Mountview and Hotel Shivalikview and 10% discount at Hotel Parkview, Chef Lakeview and other Private Hotels and Restaurants too.
Renowned Punjabi singer Mr. Satwinder Bugga will perform in a Musical Nite being organized at City Plaza, Sector 17 and a girl from Netherland would be playing Saxophone in the musical nite.
To mark the occasion, Fortis Hospital has provided 25 coupons titled Fortis Express which would entitle the International Tourists for a complete health checkup of two hours, reports of which would be made available in the evening.
Vintage and Classic Car Club has also organized a Static Display of Vintage and Classical Cars at Lake Club on the day and Vintage Car rally on the next day i.e. September 28 commencing from Piccadily Cinema to Lyons Restaurant.
A photography exhibition is also organized by Progressive Photographers Group in collaboration with Chandigarh Tourism with City Beautiful as its theme at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16.
