Atrya Opting for Tremendous Planning & Strategical Methodology To Boost Up Tourism In Chandigarh, India

Consequent to taking over the portfolio of Director Tourism, Mr. Vivek Atray is continuously pushing up the vast concept of converting Chandigarh to being known as a Tourist Hub.
His enthusiasm and initiative has become an inspiration for all around him that are confident that he will be achieving his targeted goals. In an interview Mr. Atray told our Northern India Correspondent, Mr. M.M. Khanna, that Apart from traditional attractions, the city will be having a new planetarium in sector 51 in a two acre plot with central financial assistance and multiplexes and night clubs would magnetize both domestic and foreign tourists. Mr. Atray explained that a permanent light and sound show will be the source of promoting Rural Tourism.
Mr. Atray said that a Theme Park in 73 acres of land at village Sarangpur, in Chandigarh is planned, which would be ready in the next two years to cater to thousands of tourists annually, and would result in minimum 10% growth in the arrival of domestic as well as foreign tourists. Mr. Atray told that part of this Campaign, Tourists Privilege Cards, Tourist Guides and A/C Taxis had been already introduced.
Mr. Atray told that the Chandigarh Administration communicated to the Railways Ministry to attach Executive Class coaches with Shatabdi Express and to the Civil Aviation Ministry to increase connectivity to City Beautiful, Chandigarh to attract more and more tourists.
Mr. Atray further said that according to a decision made in newly reconstituted Tourism Advisory Committee, chaired by the Home-cum Tourism Secretary, Mr. Krishana Mohan, for the promotion of tourism In Chandigarh, the Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with CII would be holding a Mega Tourism Convention in the month of October in City Beautiful, Chandigarh, which would attract delegates from India and abroad, where Tourism Promotion related issues would be deliberated.
Mr. Atray also disclosed that a New Year Festival in the last week of December and first week of January would be celebrated by illumination of Government Buildings, organizing of fire works and shopping. Mr. Atray told that existing strength of AC taxis would be increased to 350 and declared that 85 AC Mini-Buses would soon introduced to facilitate the Chandigarhians as well as the visiting tourists with comfortable & economical traveling with in the city.
Mr. Atray expressed satisfaction in the increasing statistics of 4% in arrival of domestic and 6% in foreign tourists in the city in the period Jan. to June 2006 in comparison to similar period in corresponding year. Mr. Atray concluded his interview by saying that he believed in the theory of Karma and The Great God would bless him soon for his continous efforts for promotion of Tourism in Chandigarh.
