Chandigarh May:-The Society for Tourism & Entertainment Promotions (STEPS), today launched a newsletter, called Stepping Up, which has documented the events and activities organised by STEPS in the past year.
Competitions, concerts, conferences, cycle rallies–STEPS had organised so many events during this period and the new glossy 24-page Stepping Up chronicles it all.
A large number of people participated in events like the INTACH Crafts Mela, and the Festival of Baisakhi. For the musically inclined, there were the performances of Delhi Symphony Orchestra and performance by Hans Raj Hans and Shubha Mudgal. The World Music Day was celebrated and the process of selecting a Chandigarh city song initiated. For the physically agile individuals, there is the Chandigarh Trekking Club with many activities for its members. A Cycle Rally was also held.
Films were a special focus with two batches of Actor Prepares students passing out and the Chandigarh Film Festival being held, the National Film Circle chapter being opened and much audience participation in the Cinema Quiz.
Visually, the pages depicting pictures submitted by participating lensmen for Chandigarh in April photo competition, Chandigarh in February, and other award-winning photographs add a tremendous splash of colour to this newsletter, which will not only be a chart of the past events but also be a resource that will act as an archive to the giant strides that STEPS has made to bring international cultural events to Chandigarh.
In the one year of its inception, STEPS has changed the socio-cultural face of the city. Renowned as well as not so well known performers, national and international, have found a platform to showcase their arts and skills in Chandigarh. This is due to the efforts of STEPS to expose the city to multi-cultural experiences.
Stepping Up, the newsletter is yet another step forward in the long road that STEPS has traversed. Says Vivek Atray, in his editorial in the first edition of the news magazine: “Stepping Up is our endeavour to showcase the events and activities which we have organized in the city. Readers would find in the pages of Stepping Up a wide variety of such happenings, which have taken place.”
STEPS plans to make the News magazine an interactive forum by introducing elements like the city quiz, with prizes to be won. It will also table the forthcoming events planned out for the city.
