Travel Mart to promote North India as tourist destination

Chandigarh, February 2010: The tenth edition of the Annual Travel mart opened today at the Hotel Mountview,Chandigarh and continues up to February 22. It was inaugurated by J & K state Minister for Tourism, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani who went round various stalls and evinced Great interest in attractions and facilities being provided by various tourism boards and private organizations Mr Wani said that the India Travel Mart would help in projecting north India as a integrated a tourism destination.

The event being organized by the I Creative Minds and ITFT College Chandigarh brings its most awaited and prominent travel and tourism exhibition, to Chandigarh to enable the city inhabitants and people from the neighbouring states to choose packages for summer holidays, business trips, family vacations, , honeymoon destinations, and adventure spots and eco tourism places. CITCO is the host while Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand are the partner states. Director Creative Minds, Ajay Gupta, said that the ITM showcases the best from the travel, tourism, hospitality and other related industries.

He said that today’s stressful lives called for refreshing holiday and unique travel destinations and this exhibition aimed at the same. The main focus of the exhibition is on making travel more interesting and hassle free for the traveler. It provides a detailed knowledge about the various sources that can help make most of a person’s travel.He informed that there was a wide variety of attractive packages and unique tourist destinations to choose from.

The exhibition also focuses on inbound, outbound and domestic tourism. The participants include Chandigarh Tourism (CITCO), Rajasthan Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism, Uttarakhand Tourism, Himachal Pradesh Tourism, Jharkhand Tourism, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), Tamil Nadu Tourism, Kerala Tourism, Indian Railways and leading hotels, resorts, palaces, travel agencies, tour operators from Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and many others are also participating.

Executive Director ITFT, Gulshan Sharma, said that the ITM was expected to register 20 percent growth in the number of visitors than the last year which was 20, 000. He said that a traveler today wanted to diversify his travel in such a way that he could make the best of it and for this purpose the main highlights would be pilgrimage tourism, adventure tourism, eco tourism, health tourism and wildlife tourism.He said that the basic purpose of holding this event was to boost tourism awareness worldwide.

“We believe that the inflow of domestic and outbound tourists will increase in coming months and Tri-City Chandigarh will play a vital role in promotion of Tourism. Our main aim is to promote tourism potential and spread awareness among the people.” A colorful cultural programme of dance and songs was presented by artists from Kashmir. There are lucky draws being offered by organizations.
