Germany’ s Latest Brochures, Presenting: 60 Urban Snapshots & a Portrait of RUHR 2010-European Capital of Culture plus 61 Pick-Me-Up Spa Packages, from Ayurveda to Zen

The German National Tourist Office has just updated and released two of its most popular colour brochures, Vibrant Towns and Cities in Germany and Germany – Welcome to Wellbeing . Hot off the presses in 100 and 40 pages respectively, both publications present specific topical information and, as before, provide contact details, maps and a wealth of photographs to help readers decide where to go.

Vibrant Towns and Cities in Germany
Many of Germany’s towns and cities boast unusual, arresting mergers of modern architecture and historic buildings, perfect backdrops for both cultural endeavours and simple enjoyment. The GNTO’s newly released brochure presents 60 town and city snapshots, always describing: Places of Interest, Art and Culture, Museums, Nature and Greenery along with Main Attractions. Some listings also include Excursions, Shopping, Food & Drink, Places to be Seen and Special Highlights, mentioning, for example, Hamburg’s Harley Days (in June).

This time, the publication also dedicates four detail-packed pages to Europe’s 2010 Capital of Culture, the industrial heritage region of the Ruhr River valley, represented by the city of Essen. Until the 1970s Germany’s industrial heartland, the area has undergone a remarkable transformation. Where coal mines, coking plants and smokestacks once spoke of hard physical labour, people today visit gigantic gas storage silos and collieries to see art exhibits, enjoy live music, theatre and movies. The various sites are linked by bike routes and walking paths along old railroad lines no longer in use and quiet river and woodland trails. With 1,000 industrial monuments, 200 museums, 100 arts centres, 120 theatres, 100 concert venues and 250 annual festivals and fairs – who’d be bored?

Germany – Welcome to Wellbeing
Ever since the Romans discovered the healing waters of their Germanic outposts some 2,000 years ago, the word has spread about the many mineral springs, thermal baths and high-altitude climatic resorts which in today’s Germany make it their business to look after the most discriminating guests. In recent years, the country’s hundreds of traditional spa towns have added the most modern spa and beauty facilities-perfect places to unwind for a few days after a strenuous business trip or even a busy sightseeing holiday.

The GNTO’s recently re-issued publication describes a total of 61 spa packages offering a variety of beauty and relaxation treatments, with arrangements ranging from one to seven nights. It also includes a section on various spa philosophies and approaches to overall wellbeing, pleasure and health and fitness in Germany-a complete passport to pampering.
