German city prepares for World Cup “shock”

The German city of Dortmund, one of 12 cities to host the 2006 FIFA World Cup games, is to rid prostitutes and their clients off the streets by installing designated areas to conduct business.

While preparations are ongoing in the twelve host cities with the construction and renovation of stadiums and hotels for the three million visitors expected to attend the matches World Cup from June to July 2006, Dortmund is reportedly busy installing Dutch-designed huts drive-in huts (called sex garages).

In a country where prostitution is allowed, about as 40,000 prostitutes are expected to travel to Germany to offer their services to fans during the tournament, experts estimate.

Berlin, Cologne, Dormund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Kaiserslautern, Hamburg, Hanover Leipzig, Munich, and Nuremberg join Dormund as the host cities for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Dortmund plans to set up the Dutch-designed huts in an area with condom machines and a snack bar.

Cologne and Dortmund are the only cities that have so far announced the installation of the controversial “sex garages.”
