Air France and Aéroports de Paris implement new improvements at Charles-de-Gaulle Airport
Air France and Aéroports de Paris will be making improvements over the next two years at the Air France hub at Charles-de-Gaulle airport in Paris. Air France and its partners will benefit from an optimized infrastructure and a more efficient hub that will significantly improve the quality of service for their customers.
New boarding satellites will open in phases in 2007 in terminals 2E and 2F to handle a capacity of 8.5 million passengers a year. The boarding satellite, with flexible modular gate configurations, will be a concrete solution to the currently saturated facilities. The number of gate-parked long-haul flights at Paris-CDG2 will shift from 52% to 73% during the first few weeks of operation. It will also provide boarding facilities for the new A380 super jumbo aircraft when it starts service in 2009.
Air France customers will enjoy well-lit, large open spaces, a new Espace Affaires lounge that will seat 700 passengers, improved handicapped access and a large mall with retail outlets, bars and restaurants. 18 security checkpoints, shorter inter-terminal travel on Lisa, the automated train system, self-service kiosks and improved check-in equipment will all insure faster and smoother travel through the airport.
Other improvements including new remote aircraft parking stands and a new baggage sorting system are also planned. A new regional terminal is slated to open in the fall of 2008.
In 2006, the 8,100 Air France employees at CDG handled 31.8 million passengers with close to 280,000 takeoffs and landings. That breaks down to an average of 910 daily flights and 92,200 daily passengers, 56% of which have connecting flights with 34,000 items of connecting baggage.
Air France is Europe’s leading airline for on-time performance with an 83.5% on-time rate for arrivals and departures.
