French Country Waterways Luxury Barge Cruises in Four Regions of France

French Country Waterways is offering discounts of 5 to 60% on three luxury barges in the French provinces to couples celebrating their anniversaries in sequences of five in 2004. The longer the marriage, the larger the savings – a 5% discount for five years, 25% for 25 years, 45% for 45 years and 60% for sixty years. Savings range from $164 to $2,877 on all-inclusive cruises regularly priced at $3,295 to $4,795 per person, double occupancy. The Esprit, Nenupher and Princess cruise in Burgundy, the Upper Loire Valley, Champagne and Alsace-Lorraine. Weekly departures are scheduled from March 28 through October 24, 2004.

Leisurely six-night cruises provide pampered comfort with sumptuous French cuisine and wines from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, open bar, one dinner ashore at two- or three-star Michelin restaurants, daily sightseeing excursions, private wine tastings, service by an English and French-speaking crew, the ambience of a floating country inn, bicycles and escorted transfers between Paris and Strasbourg and the barge.
 
The eight- to eighteen-passenger barges ply tree-lined canals in rolling countryside dotted with historic cities, medieval villages and churches, stately châteaux and famous vineyards. Daily excursions are designed for travelers who want to discover a region in an intimate way. During free time passengers can relax on the sundeck and walk or bicycle on canal towpaths. Hot-air ballooning is also an option.
 
One dinner is at the celebrated Lameloise in Chagny, Les Templiers in Les Bézards, Boyer Les Crayères in Reims or Le Cerf in Marlenheim. A festive dinner marks the quinquennial (occurring every five years) anniversary though the cruise need not coincide with the wedding date. A couple must have been married between 1944 and1999 in a year ending in four or nine and submit a copy of the wedding certificate.
 
Rates are lowest during “value seasons” from March 28 to May 1, July 18 to August 14 and October 17 to 30. Space is limited.
