France’s Lemon Festival is in february 2007
Menton is a city of just over 28,000 on the French Riviera, near the Franco-Italian border, whose beautiful gardens are known throughout Europe. The lemon is its symbol, and in 1929, when it was the leading supplier of lemons in Europe, a tradition began…
From 9AM to 6PM on weekdays (until 7 on weekends) the Biovès gardens in Menton will come alive with citrus. India and Morocco will be represented, and one can also visit lemon groves and a citrus-candyer’s shop.ÂÂ
Sundays February 18th, 25th, and the 4th of March from 2:30 to 6:30 PM, the Biovès gardens will be alight with the scent and spirit of citrus. There will be parades, costumes, carriages, and drums.ÂÂ
The children’s parade takes place February 22nd starting at 2 PM. There will be confetti and citrus-themed fun for all aboard the floats of orange and lemon.
When night falls on Thursday, February 22nd and Friday March 2nd, look towards Menton’s seaside promenade, where at 830 PM a trumpet sounds the start of music, folk and Hindu dance, as well as the incandescent fireworks that will light up the night.ÂÂ
Light in the Gardens
Saturday February 17th, Tuesday the 27th, and Tuesday March 6th from 8:30PM to 10PM, Menton’s gardens will come alive with son et lumière, the French sound and light spectacular with a citrus twist.
The Orchid Festival
The color, smells, and shapes of the orchid will grace the Palace of Europe in Menton. The palace will house various hybrids and wild orchids, and there will be sculptures and engraved glass along with the scents and tastes of local cuisine.
From Monday to Friday, 9:30AM to 6PM
Weekends, From 9AM to 7PM
Menton has two train stations and the airport of Nice is only 1/2 hour away.
