King Lear Comes to London

This production of Shakespeare’s tragedy on old age, family ties and human suffering comes to London’s Young Vic from the Liverpool Everyman. King Lear was one of the highlights of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year.

Alongside Pete Postlethwaite, the cast of King Lear includes John Shrapnel, Nigel Cooke, Forbes Masson, Jonjo O'Neill, Tobias Menzies and Amanda Hale.

King Lear is directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director, Rupert Goold.

About Pete Postlethwaite

Warrington-born Pete Postlethwaite’s extensive film and TV credits include The Constant Gardener, Brassed Off, Romeo + Juliet and The Usual Suspects.

Pete Postlethwaite was nominated for an Oscar for In the Name of the Father (1993).

About Director Rupert Goold
Rupert Goold is one of Theatreland’s busiest directors, and is responsible for some of 2008′s most critically acclaimed shows.

Rupert Goold’s previous productions of Shakespeare include Hamlet and Othello (in Northampton) and 2007′s celebrated Macbeth with Patrick Stewart and Kate Fleetwood. He received Best Director from the London Evening Standard, Critic’s Circle and Olivier awards for this production at the Gielgud Theatre.

He’s recently directed Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Oliver! at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Rupert Goold last joined creative forces with Pete Postlethwaite in 2002 when he directed him in the one-man tour de force, Scaramouche Jones.
