TOURISM TO EGYPT EXPERIENCES GROWTH

The Egyptian tourist industry recorded a significant increase of 26 per cent in the number of international arrivals and an increase of 78.7% in the number of tourist nights.
This is due not only to Arab tourists from neighboring countries but also from different parts of the world in general. During the month of July more than 62000 Italians , 61000 Germans, 35000 English and 160000 French visited Egypt.
Tourists arriving from Canada have also recorded a stunning increase of 45% compared to the same period in the last year, totaling the number of Canadians visiting Egypt to 4100 in July. Thus backing up the flow of tourists which started in June.

Pharaoh’s Rally

On the occasion of its forthcoming event which will take place in Egypt on 27 September through to 5th October 2003, the Rally of the Pharaoh’s will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The Rally will start at the foot the pyramids of Giza and will follow its course through the Western desert oases of El Farafra, El Dakhla and El Kharga continuing on to the extreme West at Ouweinat – the crossing borders of Egypt, Sudan and Libya on to Abu Simbel before returning to its final destination at the foot of the Pyramids. A total distance of 3307 km will be covered.

New Alexandria Museum

To further enhance its rich culture and civilization the City of Alexandria was adorned with a new Museum. The museum will display 1800 pieces of antiquities thus covering the history of Alexandria throughout ages:-, Greek, Byzantine, Roman, Coptic, Islamic and modern.
An outdoor theatre with a capacity of 800 viewers and an auditorium for 150 people will be built.

The erection of the new museum is part of a massive project of Renaissance of the city of Alexandria. Firstly, marked with the inauguration of Bibliotheca of Alexandria as center of cultural radiation and creation with its state of the art Architecture then the discovery of the “Sunken Palace of Cleopatra” in the Mediterranean sea, which reveals constantly the traces of the pharaonic and Greco-roman civilization.
