Hawwas: Obama is first foreign leader to enter the tomb of fourth dynasty King Cheops

US President Barack Obama is the first foreign leader to enter the tomb of fourth dynasty King Cheops, which was built over 4,500 years ago, Dr Zahi Hawwas told MENA Thursday 4/6/2009. He said he was very delighted to accompany Obama during his tour around the world-renowned site of Great Pyramids of Giza.

Hawwas said Obama’s tour included visiting the sphinx, an area usually off limits to visitors.

Zahi Hawwas said Obama jokingly asked him if the curse of the Pharaohs would hit him. Hawwas said that he replied that the curse of the Pharaohs does not hit a person who adores and respects the whole Egyptian people.

The Curse of the Pharaohs refers to the belief that any person disturbing the mummy of an ancient pharaoh, the Pharaohs, in seeking their revenge, will harm him and place him under their curse.

Hawwas said he dedicated his famous, trademark Indiana Jones hat to Obama, saying that he told the American president that he looks like Pharaoh King Tutankhamun.

Hawwas said Obama commented that this is not the first time to hear this.

On the other hand, Obama also visited the Sultan Hassan Mosque, which represents the Islamic civilization in Egypt.
