Canadians Traveling to Ecuador should know about demonstrations (April 20, 2005)

Canadians should not travel to Ecuador. Large-scale anti-government protests and strikes continue in Quito and throughout the country. Transportation services are currently disrupted, and highways and roads out of Quito are blocked. There is indication that protests are becoming violent, and there have been violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces. Canadians already living or travelling in Ecuador, particularly in Quito, should exercise caution, limit their movement, avoid locations where demonstrations are taking place, follow news reports closely, and contact the Embassy of Canada in Quito for assistance and advice.

For advice on travel to Ecuador, see Foreign Affairs Canada’s Travel Report.В В В В В
