Hven – Denmark’s Island in the Stream
Halfway across the Øresund between Denmark and Sweden lies the island of Hven (Ven in Swedish), once home to the great 16th-century astronomer Tycho Brahe. Easily reached by boat from Copenhagen, Hven is a favorite spot for a “day away,” especially if you bring your bike to ride around and explore.

(No bike? No problem. You can rent one there, or find another way to get around – such as a horse-drawn carriage ride or a tour by tractor.) There’s a museum dedicated to Brahe and his discoveries about the movement of the planets. There are beaches where you can take a dip or simply sink your toes in the sand. Most of all, there’s unspoiled nature in which to relax and unwind. Boats from Copenhagen to Hven leave in the morning.
The trip takes about 90 minutes. The boats return in the evening or you can book a hotel room and spend the night gazing at the stars as the great astronomer once did.
