Ncv Introduces New “Antarctica Cruise Extension Program” To Iguazu Falls, Machu Picchu, Atacama Desert And Easter Island

Norwegian Coastal Voyage’s Antarctica Expedition Cruises can now be enhanced with a series of exclusive vacation extensions — four-day tours to Iguazu Falls, the Inca ruins at Machu Picchu and San Pedro de Atacama in the Atacama Desert, and five- and six-day Easter Island. NCV’s new “Antarctica Cruise Extension Program” introduces guests to the exceptional beauty and historical cultures of South America. Linked to all 15 departures of NCV’s 19-day, air-inclusive Antarctica and Chilean fjords expedition voyages between October 14 and February 17, the four-day choices range from $875 to $1,485 per person, double and $1,820 and $1,895 for the Easter Island offerings. Prices include round-trip flights from Santiago or Buenos Aires, hotel accommodations for three to five nights, breakfast daily, sightseeing excursions with an English-speaking guide, and transfers.

“Our Antarctica Cruise extensions offer great value and a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience some of the most fascinating destinations in South America. With two ships and the most extensive series of cruises in the Antarctica region, NCV includes all Antarctica landings, university-trained expedition leaders to guide and educate our guests on the wildlife and natural elements of the destinations, and a variety of shore side experiences,” says Hans Rood, president of Norwegian Coastal Voyage.

Highlights are panoramic views of cascading Iguazu Falls, the world’s widest waterfalls, from the Brazilian and Argentine sides of the border and catwalks along the upper and lower circuit, as well as a ride on an ecological train through lush rainforest, at $875; Lima, capital of Peru, and Cuzco, the Inca capital high in the Andes, the sacred Urubamba Valley and isolated Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, $1,485; in the world’s driest desert, the Atacama in Chile, geysers, a salt mountain range, pre-Inca fortress and archaeological relics in the village of San Pedro de Atacama, at $1,205. Iguazu Falls can also be visited before a February 21 special departure to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.

On remote Easter Island, in the Pacific Ocean 2,340 miles west of Chile, participants take in the monumental stone sculptures (moais) along the coast, a quarry with 397 stone figures in the Rano Raraku volcano crater, the view from Rano Kau volcano, partially restored Orongo village, Ana Kai Tangata caves, Ahu Akivi ceremonial center and legendary Anakena beach. The pre-cruise tour adds one hotel night in Santiago.

NCV Antarctica expedition cruises, featuring naturalist guides, guest lecturers and PolarCirkel landings, combine the White Continent with the Southern Andes, Santiago and Buenos Aires, the capitals of Chile and Argentina. The modern Norwegian cruise ships, limited to 350 passengers each, are large enough to be comfortable and small enough to sail close to icebergs and let passengers go ashore in inflatable boats. The expedition voyages, which include round-trip flights from New, cost $5,495 to $9,800.
