Plethora of Cultural Events Announced for 2010 Asian Games
GUANGZHOU, China – June, 2009 – The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia will be scheduling a plethora of new events coinciding with the final 100 days before the Games.Â
Asian Games themed cultural activities have and will continue to be held to further the Games’ Vision – “Thrilling Games, Harmonious Asia” and to showcase the Chinese culture and Lingnan culture while promoting culture exchanges across the continent.

Over the past 14 months, GAGOC has organized a series of grand activities, such as the Launch Ceremony for the Mascots of the 16th Asian Games; the 1st round of Asian Games Song Solicitation; the 16th Asian Games Two-year Countdown Ceremony; the 1st Awards Ceremony for the 16th Asian Games Selected Songs and the Asian Games Song Singing Parties and a upcoming grand ceremony to mark the one-year countdown to the Games.

Several significant events have been planned to coincide with important dates during the preparations for the Games. The ongoing “Road of Asia” promotional campaign was launched on November 12, 2008 at the two-year countdown to the Games.

At the one-year countdown, GAGOC will invite people from across Asia to meet in Guangzhou to celebrate the anniversary date for the 2010 Asian Games … and at the 100-day countdown, GAGOC will announce a new promotion “Guangzhou is ready”, while the Games’ Theme Song, Torchbearers’ Song.

Also underway is the nation-wide Asian Games Cheerleader Selection Contest, which is expected to attract more than 100,000 participants from over 300 cities. The top 30 cheerleading teams, with final approval from GAGOC, will perform in a number of venues during the Asian Games

In accordance with the Olympic Council of Asia, GAGOC’s Ceremonies & Cultural Events Department with organize various competitions for youngsters in Asia, including drawing, writing and artistic performances. Competitions will be held between January and August 2010, as youngsters from 45 countries and regions are expected to take part. Ten winners from all competitions will be invited to attend the Asian Games Youth Camp in Guangzhou prior to the Games.

As the 16th Asian Games approaches, GAGOC will make all efforts to explore the special linkage between culture and sport … while presenting a unique vision of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and fresh new look of the city to Asia and the world.

The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en) is approved and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia and will be held in “Flower City” of Guangzhou from November 12 – 27, 2010. More than 12,000 athletes, trainers and coaches from 45 countries and regions will compete in 42 sports. More than 10,000 accredited and non-accredited worldwide media are anticipated to cover the Games with more than three million spectators expected to attend.
