Success story means more Cuba, more Dominican Republic for Montrealers

Strong sales and full flights since launching November 4–and an airline which includes extras many other carriers now charge for–has package holiday company Sunwing Vacations off to a strong start in its first year of operation in Quebec.  So strong that it has announced more departures from Montreal this winter.

Demand has spurred Sunwing to increase its flights from one to three per week to the famous beaches of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. And departures to Varadero, Cuba, have been doubled from one to two flights a week.
“We’re very pleased that, despite being the newest package holiday to expand into Quebec, we are being so well received by travellers and travel agents,” says  Stephen Hunter, Sunwing’s C.O.O.   “We’ve also created over 100 new jobs in the province.”

Sunwing Airlines features fuel-efficient Boeing 737s and an array of inclusions that most other airlines now charge for. Each flight features a welcome glass of sparkling wine; choice of hot meal;  wine with lunch or dinner; and free inflight entertainment.  “Consumers tell us it’s such a nice change not to have to reach for their wallets every two minutes, as they do on other airlines these days,” adds Hunter.

Business is excellent, with each Sunwing flight to date from Montreal going out 99% full. The company offers flights from Montreal/Trudeau to five destinations in Cuba; Mexico (Cancun, the Mayan Riviera and Acapulco);   the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and La Romana); Florida (Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando) and Panama.  The operator has also debuted flights this year from Quebec City and–unique to Sunwing–Bagotville/La Saguenay.  All flights are operated in conjunction with a wide choice of resorts, virtually all of which are all-inclusive.
The three Quebec gateways bring the total to 18 cities across the country served by Sunwing Vacations this winter.

“Who knows what our expansion into Quebec will bring next?” says Hunter. “It’s certainly clear that we have a product both travel agents and consumers here love.”
