Trinidad & Tobago Win Olympic Bronze
Olympic swimmer George Bovell won the bronze medal in the men’s 200-meter individual medley last night at the XXVIII Olympic Games. With a time of 1:58:00, Bovell has made history by becoming the first Trinidadian to win an Olympic medal for swimming. Bovell’s time was just 0.02 seconds behind American swimmer Ryan Lochte, who captured the silver medal. “I dove in and felt my stroke fly,” Bovell said afterward. “I felt it would be an easy, smooth race. I had doubts in the backstroke, but I pushed through the pain and just looked to bring it home.” A student at Auburn University in Alabama, Bovell holds NCAA, tri-national, and multiple Caribbean and Central American records.
“We congratulate George on his outstanding accomplishment. Trinidad is very proud of George’s remarkable performance and continues to support his efforts and the promising future for our Olympic training program,” said Warren Solomon, vice-president of tourism for TIDCO.
