Trinidad & Tobago Hosts Under-17 Women’s World Cup

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – August, 2010 – The Tourism Development Company (TDC) is pleased to announce that the twin-island nation of Trinidad & Tobago will host the upcoming FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, September 5-25, 2010. The second-staging of the event will showcase defending champions New Zealand competing against some of the best soccer teams in the world including Brazil, Germany, Mexico and Spain, for the title of 2010 World Cup champion.

As country’s representative, the TDC will partner with the tournament’s Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to showcase Trinidad & Tobago’s culture, attractions and people to the world. In addition to providing cultural displays of steel pan players to greet arriving teams at the Piarco International Airport and host hotels, the TDC will work with the LOC to promote Trinidad & Tobago’s sites and attractions with tours for FIFA officials and referees, during the tournament.

Sixteen teams, comprising of representatives from FIFA’s six confederations – Asia, Africa, Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association of Football, South America, Oceania and Europe as well as Trinidad & Tobago’s Soca Princesses, will compete in the tournament. Matches will be held at five stadiums including the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain and the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Tobago.
