Whistler gears up to host ski industry with Mountain Travel Symposium in April

Whistler, B.C. – Mountain Travel Symposium (MTS) – the largest and longest-running annual gathering of mountain travel professionals in North America – comes to Whistler April 15-21, 2007. Last in Whistler in 2002, the 2007 MTS is expected to bring 1,000 delegates to Whistler, including North America’s top buyers and sellers of mountain resort products.

“Mountain Travel Symposium is Whistler’s opportunity to demonstrate what we do best in front of the brightest in the ski industry,” said Karen Goodwin, Director of Sales, Tourism Whistler. “A lot of business will be generated during the week-long symposium and we expect a lot of new Whistler business given that we are hosting the event and the ‘product’ is front and centre.”

The delegates will have the opportunity to discover first-hand the spectacular mountain playground that is Whistler, learn all about its fantastic range of amenities, accommodations, restaurants and spas, and personally experience Whistler’s welcoming hospitality and community spirit.

“The event is a unique opportunity for Whistler to showcase its leadership while learning from other mountain travel leaders, plus Whistler businesses will benefit from experiencing one of the top industry conferences and marketplaces right in their own backyard,” said Goodwin.

The event features a wide range of keynote presentations and breakout sessions with leaders in the travel and tourism industry. One program highlight will include Greg Stielstra’s keynote address of the theories from his best selling book PyroMarketing: The Four Step Strategy to Ignite Customer Evangelists and Keep Them for Life.

The second keynote address – The Art of Innovation in Mountain Travel – will be an “outside the box” look at future opportunities for the industry presented by Guy Kawasaki, one of the leading innovators at Apple during its formative years and author of The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream, and The Macintosh Way.

MTS coincides with the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival providing the opportunity to showcase Whistler to clients and colleagues during Whistler’s legendary celebration of winter sport and culture.

Mountain Travel Symposium is the largest and longest-running annual gathering of mountain travel professionals in North America. The event features an educational forum with several major presentations from nationally-known speakers, individual breakout sessions, and two separate trade shows with one specifically for tour operators and another one for ski club and ski group organizers. A variety of social events and activities are scheduled throughout the week to provide additional networking opportunities. MTS attracts more than 1,000 participants each year and is firmly established as the single most productive business venue for mountain travel suppliers and buyers.
