December 31st, 2008: Salut 400e!
A great gathering will brilliantly mark the end of the 400th anniversary festivities on December 31st starting at 10:45 pm, on a stage specially set up for the occasion on a significant site: Parc George-V in front of Manège Militaire.

A retrospective in songs and images

A chorus of 400 singers will interpret the songs of the artists who were the highlights of 2008. From Paul McCartney to Charles Aznavour, including Gilles Vigneault, Michel Fugain and Céline Dion, more than 30 songs will be sung. Seven giant screens will illustrate the songs by replaying images of the major shows and gatherings that marked the year in Québec.

A scintillating send-off

The 400th will set the city on fire when the clock strikes midnight with a powerful and ethereal 15-minute musical fireworks show. They will be launched from sites along the Plains of Abraham stretching over one kilometer, with an additional site located behind the Palais Montcalm to amplify the closing touch.

Heated street and nonstop animation

Heaters will be set up on a portion of Avenue Cartier. This will be the only heated street in Québec that evening. Throughout the city, there will be animation, shows, huge puppets and actors wearing costumes and masks. The ice rink in Place D’Youville will be open to skaters all evening long starting from 6 pm, the terraces on Grande Allée will welcome the crowd in a club atmosphere: music, projection, DJs and public entertainers.

The 400 FOIS INTENSE event

The 400 FOIS INTENSE event will bring in the New Year with the top DJs from Québec, Montréal and around the world. The event will take place in the international Pavilion and Sciences of ExpoCité, where the countdown images of the Salut 400e will be broadcasted!
