Canadian Icons Unite, Creating a Wonderful Weekend Escape – Margaret Atwood is the Writer Inn Residence at the Wickaninnish Inn in BC
(Tofino, BC) Hockey sticks, maple leafs, the red surge of an RCMP jacket… all images that make Canadians proud. Canada has so much more to offer the world than these images. We are also home to fabulous writers and wonderful vacation destinations. By bringing many talented writers to the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island for the last 3 years, the team at the Wickaninnish Inn has fine tuned the act of bringing great writers and luxury together with their Writers Inn Residence program.
This year, the writers making the trek to the quaint village of Tofino are icons of Canadian literature. On November 27, Margaret Atwood and her equally talented husband, Graeme Gibson will reside at the Wick, reading from their books and chatting with Inn guests.
A Writers Inn Residence accommodation package has been created for those travelers wanting to combine the best of Vancouver Island’s west coast with a truly unique literary event. Guests of the Inn who purchase the Writers Inn Residence package will receive two nights accommodation (November 27-29) as well as two tickets to a Welcome Wine & Cheese reception with Margaret Atwood & Graeme Gibson. Exclusive to the package guests, an intimate Writers’ Brunch will be enjoyed with the couple Sunday, November 29. Package prices start at $747.20.
On Saturday November 28th, Margaret and Graeme will be in Tofino, sharing some of their favorite stories at a public reading. Tickets for this event are available from Wildside Booksellers in Tofino. Call (250)725-2070 to purchase tickets‎. However, Inn guests who purchase the Writers’ weekend accommodation package at the Inn will receive 2 tickets to this event in their package.
Author, poet, critic, feminist and social campaigner, Margaret Atwood will be the first guest in the Writers Inn Residence series for the winter of 2009/10. A similar weekend of reading and writers will be held in February, 2010. The next guest Writer Inn Residence will be Yann Martel, Canadian author of The Life of Pi. He, along with his wife, Alice Kuipers, will be in-house on February 19-21st.
The Wickaninnish Inn offers guests 75 rooms and suites, each with its own fireplace, soaker bathtub, private balcony and views of the Pacific Ocean. To contact the Wickaninnish Reservations team, call 1 (800) 333-4604, or visit the Wickaninnish Inn web site at www.wickinn.com
