WinterCity getaway to Toronto made easy

The second annual WinterCity Festival is a 14-day city-wide celebration of Toronto’s culture, creativity, cuisine and incomparable diversity of spirit. Running from January 28 – February 10, 2005, this festival dares audiences to forget the weather and join the party in the world’s coolest city. With stellar free indoor and outdoor programming, the hugely popular prix fixe restaurant promotion Winterlicious presented by American Express, plus tons of winter events and discounts at Toronto’s attractions, WinterCity provides the perfect opportunity for tourists to sample the city’s vibrant arts scene.

The WinterCity hotel package makes it easy to plan a winter getaway in Toronto. Tourists to the city can book their stay with the official WinterCity hotel partner, the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre. The hotel offers a package deal including overnight accommodations, a prix-fixe dinner at JW’s Steakhouse, breakfast for two at the Parkside Restaurant and parking. The WinterCity Festival is brimming with incomparable free programming. The festival’s hub lies in the heart of the city at Nathan Phillips Square where the Wild on Winter series features performances from celebrated Canadian music talent and world-renowned, international theatrical troupes. This series of open-air performances injects some serious WOW! into Toronto’s winter landscape.

In 2005, these successful WinterCity events will be joined by the new WinterCity 24 photo project. 24 exemplary Torontonians will document 24 hours in their lives around the city with a 24-exposure camera. The results will be displayed at Nathan Phillips Square during the WinterCity Festival. Watch for more details to be released on this project soon.

The Eaton Centre, Toronto’s world-class shopping centre, will play host to the WinterCity Warm Up Series. The mall will come alive with culinary demonstrations and acrobatic performances. WinterCity also offers incredible discounts to 37 of Toronto’s landmarks and attractions with the WinterCity Passport. The Passport provides the holder with discounts such as 20% off and 2-for-1 admission to destinations including Casa Loma, the Ontario Science Centre, the National Film Board and the Toronto Zoo, plus so many more. Special programming will also be offered at 17 local attractions during WinterCity. Toronto’s restaurant promotion, Winterlicious presented by American Express, returns with an expanded restaurant selection on January 28 through February 10. The program includes the participation of 120 of Toronto’s finest restaurants each offering a special prix fixe menu where patrons can sample the establishment’s famous fare. The three-course prix fixe menus are available at lunch ($10 or $20) and dinner ($20 or $30). Beverages, taxes and gratuity are not included (some restrictions may apply).

Participating restaurants include North 44, Bymark, Centro, Auberge du Pommier, Canoe, Square, Truffles, Annona, Rosewater Supper Club, Courtyard CafГ©, and Azure. Watch for the full list of participating restaurants to be released soon. Reservations for Winterlicious’ prix fixe menus will be accepted at participating restaurants starting on January 13.

Winterlicious also includes unique culinary events at some of the participating restaurants. These experiences allow guests to savour delectable meals and participate in culinary happenings such as champagne brunches, high teas and themed tasting menus.
