«LES EXCEPTIONNELLES 2007»

The Daniel A. Seguin Garden in St-Hyacinthe has developed a very innovative promotional program geared to involve the general public on the selection of the latest trends on annual plants for the garden.

Indeed, since 2006, the Garden, inaugurated in 1995 by the ITA, the Quebec Agriculture Technology Institute, invites the visitor to vote for their 4 newly arrived annuals of their choice.

An expert's jury makes a final selection among the 30 favourite ones, following specific criteria; to be chosen by the public, to be naturally resistant to insects and diseases and to be low maintenance. Thereafter, the agronomist Claude Vallée, of the ITA continues a rigorous evaluation of the selected annuals throughout the horticulture milieu in Quebec and elsewhere.

«Les Exceptionnelles 2007» are then marketed in more than 140 garden centers and others, in Quebec and in Ontario. FLORA is proud to present all summer this innovative garden showcase located in the yellow Garden Lounge». The 10 exceptionals for 2007 are here for you :

Anigozanthos `Kanga Red’, Begonia `Solenia Cherry’, Célosie `Fresh Gold Look’, Cléome `Señorita Rosalita’, Euphorbium `Diamond Frost’, Penstemon `Red Phoenix’, Rudbeckie roughcast `Irish Spring’, Thought `Karma Deep Blue Blotch’, Zinnia `Profusion Deep Apricot’, Scaevola `Diamond’.

Come to see them at FLORA, they are really exceptional!

ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE – A GREEN INDUSTRY!

The Fédération interdisciplinaire de l'horticulture ornementale du Québec (FIHOQ) is proud to represent one of the greenest industries in existence.

Did you know that:

- A 2,500 sq. ft. lawn produces the oxygen for a family of 4 persons?
- Plants increase the quality of the air and purify the air (dust and toxins)?
- Plants absorb the worst atmospheric pollutants such as C02, SO2, ozone, hydrogen fluoride, peroxyacetyl nitrate, etc?
- Plants reduce greenhouse gases? So, the ornamental horticulture industry represents a real solution to the Kyoto protocol!
- Plants increase the level of humidity?
- Plants reduce the temperature of the air?
- Plants lessen erosion?

In summary: « The ornamental horticulture industry has deep roots in human wellbeing! »
