Newfoundland’s newest resort perfect for year-round vacations

The west coast of Newfoundland is famed for its spectacular scenery, excellent outdoor activities, and now an expansive new resort geared to vacationing 12 months of the year.

Humber Valley Resort, which has been open for just over a year, features 140 elegantly-appointed chalets with three to six bedrooms.  Each includes a deluxe fitted kitchen, dining room, living room with fireplace and DVD player, and is located on a private, spacious lot. Many have decks with outdoor hot tubs overlooking the forests, the golf course, or the Humber River.

An extensive activities list includes golfing, fly-fishing, kayaking, helicopter tours, white-water rafting and hiking in the summer.  Winter activities comprise snowmobiling, skiing at nearby Marble Mountain, snowboarding, back-country skiing and snowshoeing.  And Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just 40 minutes away.

Facilities at the resort include a restaurant, pub, Clubhouse–and a very busy activities team available for activities bookings and equipment rental, as well as instruction in many sports.

A major highlight of Humber Valley is the on-site 18 hole championship Doug Carrick-designed golf course. The River Course is known for its extreme changes of elevation and impressive water and mountain views.

Rates start at $59 per person per night (based on six people sharing a three-bedroom chalet).  On request, staff can pre-stock chalets with food and beverages, ensuring complete convenience for guests on arrival.

Humber Valley Resort is some 30 minutes from Deer Lake Airport, which is served frequently by Air Canada Jazz and Canjet Airlines.
